About us

Our Journey and Impact

Women for Positive Actions (WOPA) has been at the forefront of advocating for gender equality and fighting against gender-based violence (GBV) in Liberia since its inception in 2016. Founded on the principles of human rights and equality, WOPA has dedicated itself to empowering women, girls, and children through advocacy, education, and direct support.

"Women's empowerment is not a choice, it's a necessity for a better future."

Mission

WOPA strives to inspire, equip, and empower women and girls to overcome adversity and effect positive change in their communities. Through collaboration, service projects, mentorship, and advocacy, we aim to uplift and empower women and girls across Liberia

Vision

We envision a society where poverty is alleviated, societal challenges are overcome, and women and girls recognize their ability to make a societal impact and improve their lives.

Our Core Value

Champion Women’s Rights, Gender Equality at all levels, and fight against violence towards Women, Children, and Girls.

Empower Economic Independence and Skills Development for women, girls, and children, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to society and their own well-being.

Create safe spaces for women, girls, and children, promoting their dignity and security.

The Challenges We Hope To Address

WOPA tackles critical issues in Liberia, such as gender-based violence, educational disparity, and limited economic opportunities for women and girls. Despite Liberia’s progress, women and girls continue to face significant challenges, including high rates of gender-based violence, with a substantial portion of Liberian women experiencing some form of violence in their lifetime.

Additionally, the gender gap in education remains vast, with many girls lacking access to quality education. Economic empowerment for women is also a significant challenge, as many need more access to resources and opportunities to achieve financial independence.

Through its programs, WOPA aims to address these challenges by advocating for women’s rights, providing educational and vocational training, and supporting economic empowerment initiatives to create a more equitable society where women and girls can thrive.

As Executive Director of WOPA, I believe in the power of collective action and education to uplift women and girls in Liberia. Our goal is to pave the way for a future where every woman and girl can achieve her full potential, free from discrimination and inequality”
